The Sect of Metal runs amok in the new Season of Heavy Metal Machines

Florianopolis, Brazil - January 6, 2019 - Crazed religious fanatics are loose in Sect of Metal, a new Season that is available right now on the free-to-play car combat PC MOBA Heavy Metal Machines. The Season expands the game’s lore, bringing new insights into the machinations of the violent Sect of Metal religious order, as well as 90 new items, such as new skins for characters that have been “converted” to the sect: Rampage, Little Monster and Killer J.

This new chapter of Heavy Metal Machines now explores one of the richest and most popular facet in the game’s lore, and gave room for the art team to bolster the quality of the new assets, based largely on feedback from the game’s passionate community.

“We are also working on loads of new features based on the community’s feedback”, says Tatiana Moreira, Hoplon’s Head of Marketing and Publishing. “The community was the first to know about the theme of the Season 3 and already know a little bit about Season 4. Their approval is very important for us.”

Heavy Metal Machines came out of beta in September of last year, with the introduction of the Metal Pass progression systems and it‘s first Season, the gelid Road to Malmheim, which was followed by the lovecraftian horrors of Into the Abyss, before the arrival of Sect of Metal.

Why Heavy Metal Machines rocks
Free-to-play MOBA: 4v4 multiplayer car battle with a heavy metal theme.
A Legend Reborn: Narrated by Larry Huffman, of Rock ’n Roll Racing.
Choose your role from three main classes: Interceptor, Support, and Transporter.

Deadly Drivers: 15 playable characters with their own characteristics and backstories. From Little Monster, a child hell-bent on seeking revenge for the death of her father, to Dirt Devil, a pirate leader from the Wastelands who hunts the giant sandworm that cost him an arm and an eye.

Three Hellish Arenas: Temple of Sacrifice, Metal God Arena, and the Cursed Necropolis already available to play.

Just the Beginning: More content constantly updated and new characters, arenas and game modes on the way.

eSports Championships: Planned competitive tournaments featuring cash-prizes to fuel the game’s eSports scene.

Heavy Metal Machines gets vacation event that rewards gamers in “casual mode”

January 15, 2018 - Vacations are a time to kick back and relax, even in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Heavy Metal Machines. The free-to-play car combat MOBA with a rock n' roll attitude is starting today it's HMM 2019 Kick-off event, that rewards an exclusive "2019" celebratory theme portrait to players that complete matches in it's Casual Mode. So start your engines and… relax for a bit.

To get the avatar portrait, players need only to complete 20 games on Casual Match mode, rather than the popular Custom Game mode. Casual Mode is open to players of all skill sets, bringing a greater level of interaction between veterans and newcomers.

It is not necessary to win, they just need to finish the matches either alone or with friends. But don't chill out too much! As players can't be AFK (away from keyboard), otherwise the match won't be counted. Players will be given 13 "vacation time" to complete the event and get their avatars.

Narrated by Larry Huffman, of Rock 'n Roll Racing fame, the game pits two teams controlling heavily armed characters in deadly arenas, as they race to pick up a bomb and use it to score and destroy the opponent's base.

Heavy Metal Machines heads ‘Into The Abyss’ with Metal Pass Season Two

Florianopolis, Brazil - November 21, 2018 - Heavy Metal Machines, the post-apocalyptic car-combat MOBA, has received a new update today featuring not only a brand new character, but also a new season of content themed around the Cthulhu Mythos and the abyssal creations of H.P. Lovecraft.

Entering the arena is the Stargazer, a vehicle which includes weapons such as the Orbital Beam, Life Support System Warp and Entangle. These teleport options alongside the ability to attach to other vehicles, create new strategies and game mechanics which are not found in other vehicles, making it a formidable and flexible support character. Those who delve a little deeper into the lore behind Stargazer will find that it’s pilot is Jada Jemison, a character who’s creation was inspired by the first African-American astronaut, Mae Carol Jemison.

“Although Heavy Metal Machines only left closed beta in September, it is important to us that the game remains fresh and we introduce new mechanics and strategies for our loyal community” Said Eros Carvalho, Head of Studio and Development for Hoplon. “We’re constantly looking for feedback from both our new and veteran players on what we can introduce to improve the game. J. J and our season two content are a culmination of a close relationship with our players, and we can’t wait for them to get their hand on this fantastic new content.”

First introduced in September, ‘Metal Pass’ offers players a progression system which unlocks cosmetic rewards through weekly missions and challenges. Season Two - “Into TheAbyss” – has been inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s creations. All the cosmetic items designed for the season are themed after abyssal creatures, ocean animals and water sports capturing the essence of the iconic Cthulhu Mythos.

Tatiana Moreira, Head of Marketing and Publishing, commented: “Season Two represents a huge milestone for us at Hoplon. Our community is at the heart of what we do with Heavy Machine Machines, they are the most important asset have and their feedback is crucial to the success of our game.”

Don't take on the madness alone! Experience the insantity of Heavy Metal Machines with all of your friends!

Review: By Jon Donnis
As someone who is more of a console gamer, I was happy to see a great looking arcade style game come to the PC. So first thing I did was find out my wired Xbox controller, and plugged it into my laptop. None of this keyboard control nonsense for me!

Also worth noting that both Xbox 360 and Xbox One wired controllers will work with this game. And the experience is much better, even if it will take you a few moments to get used to the controls, for example on pretty much all driving games you have the classic RT = Accelerate and LT = Brake system, here you push in the direction you want to move, and the LT and RT buttons have other jobs. You can probably remap the controls if you go into settings though.

Controls aside, the game is pretty simple, you drive a little vehicle about equipped with rockets and weapons, you try to gain control of a bomb, and you plant it in your enemies area. This is very much an online game, and you play with and against other players around the world. I did not notice any lag, and the game played along perfectly, although you have to put up with those annoying waits in the lobby as other players click the "ready" button, but that is very much the norm these days.

This game is an easy to pick up, arcade game that you will find will waste many an hour, and as the game gets updates etc it can only improve, I have already published news of tournaments and competitions the makers have introduced, so there really are some great incentives to play.

A good fun game, easy to pick up. Decent graphics and sound, and fun easy game play.

I give this game a strong 8/10

Heavy Metal Machines Adds New Competition-Boosting Features with Eye on Creating an eSports Hit

Florianópolis BRAZIL, June 9, 2017  - Hoplon, the developers behind the upcoming car-combat MOBA Heavy Metal Machines, have already taken some early steps towards making their fast-paced, yet nuanced action game a good fit for professional-level eSports competition by introducing an innovative leaderboard system earlier this year. With some new updates coming in June and July, Hoplon aims to prove that Heavy Metal Machines could be the next great competitive video game to light the eSports world ablaze.

Still in open beta stage on Steam, Heavy Metal Machines will introduce big updates in June and July. From a brand new custom match, which allows players to create the kind of competitive game setups that foster high-calibre tactical plays, to a newly improved and powerful Bomb, giving players  fresh tricks up their sleeves, this update is sure to enliven the game’s competitive field. There will also be a brand new arena that will speak to the desires of the high-level competitors of Heavy Metal Machines.

New Features Being Rolled Out

The New Bomb – According to games director Aly Lenzi, there were four main objectives Hoplon had in mind when re-imagining the Bomb:

  • Prioritize fun: “On top of removing the damage per second, which already opened a lot of options to the carrier, we also wanted to expand on player instincts. After observing a great amount of games and analysing players’ feedback, we decided to invest development efforts into building a very intuitive and visceral "pass" mechanic.”
  • Focus on the gamer’s intuition: “This was the easiest part to plan, and the hardest to execute. We rebuilt our physics system to allow a real and frightening Bomb. It will influence your movement with its own inertia, forcing carriers to adapt to curves and collisions on the fly. It made carrying a little bit harder than before, but in a very fun and competitive way. You can also use it as a shield against enemies with proper timing, and, at the very last moment, as a weapon!”
  • Improve visual clarity: “The main way to increase the Bomb’s visibility was by increasing its size. Now, it is as big as a standard vehicle. On top of that, new visual effects were added, including some animations, to really make it ‘pop’.”
  • Add precision: “We made a core change to the way a player picks up the bomb: instead of just touching it, which could make you grab it by accident, now you will have to hold the pickup key to activate what we are calling ‘The Bomb Grabber’. To increase tension and competitiveness, we also added a "Struggle" feature where if two opposing-teams players are trying to pick the Bomb up at the same time, no one will be able to link to it unless one of them is moved farther -- or destroyed.”

Custom match – If Heavy Metal Machines is to be considered a viable game by eSports pros, it is going to need flexibility and customisability when it comes to setting up matches and tournaments. Lenzi says: “A key selling point for many eSports pros and organisers is the ability to host tournaments. This mode allows control of who is in the match, which is crucial to even the crudest forms of competition.”

New Arena – Heavy Metal Machines will be getting a brand new arena that could fundamentally change the way fans play the game. Aly Lenzi explains: “We aim on delivering a different experience with this new arena. While the original stage focused on intersections and shortcuts, the new arena is built to be a very straight-forward race to the finish. We also wanted to add some physical gameplay mechanics, like mud. Overall, it should be easier to navigate, but equally challenging to the carriers. We will also debut a new track concept: bifurcations. Carriers will have more than one path option to follow, which delivers a lot of power to them, but with that power, a lot of responsibility.”
